High House Day Nursery Achieves Ofsted Outstanding Rating

19 October 2021

High House Day Nursery, located in Takeley, Bishop’s Stortford, has been awarded the highest possible rating of ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, when they were inspected in September 2021.

The Nursery inspires children with a range of rich stimulating activities and their Forest Garden which encourages independence and exciting opportunities to engage with nature.

The Ofsted inspector, who rated the Nursery ‘Outstanding’ in all areas, described the children as “thriving”, noting that they “arrive at the nursery excited and very eager for their day to begin”.  The Inspector noted that children “interact with warmth and confidence” as their key person greets them.

The report goes on to describe children as “extremely happy”, commenting that, “their communication is successfully encouraged, as they enjoy an extremely rich and varied language environment”.

The report commended staff for the “excellent attention” which “is given to continually improving and developing the very best possible practice.” Special praise was given for the way in which “staff chat with children to promote healthy eating, and talk to babies about what they are having for snack and other meals.”

The report notes that babies at the Nursery “relate exceptionally well and their needs are understood through the excellent use of body and sign language.” The Inspector also praised the way in which “children develop an excellent awareness and understanding of their emotions”, noting that “behaviour is exemplary as all children are listened to and understood”.

Staff at the Nursery were given credit for the “exceptional” work undertaken with other agencies involved in the lives of their children, including the “excellent attention given to supporting all funded children.”

Ofsted recognised the Nursery’s excellent partnership with parents, noting that “parents speak very highly of the nursery and about how their children have become extremely confident and articulate.”

The inspector commended the leadership team and all members of staff who are “committed to reflecting on and evaluating what they do”, adding that, “the leadership team supports staff to pay excellent attention to continuing to develop their knowledge of child protection.”

The Nursery Manager, Kelly Greenwood and her staff team are delighted with the result.

Kelly said: “The last year has been an incredible journey; the team and I have worked extremely hard. I joined High House in September 2020, gaining a wonderful team who care deeply about each child at the Nursery. They go above and beyond for the children and our parents.  We pride ourselves on growing confident, independent children, offering them all unique opportunities to support their learning and development. We are delighted with the Ofsted result.”
