Northcote House Nursery and Bennerley Pre-Prep achieves the Healthy Early Years London Silver Award
Northcote House Nursery and Bennerley Pre-Prep are proud to announce they have successfully achieved the Healthy Early Years London (HEYL) Silver Award. In addition, earlier this year the nursery achieved the Healthy Early Years London First Steps and Bronze Award and the Food for Life Served Here Soil Association’s Silver Award.
The HEYL award has a key focus on the importance of improving the health, wellbeing and development of children, staff and families.
To gain this recognition the Nursery created a case study highlighting how they have expanded on the greater understanding of where their Nursery food and meals originate from in addition to a range of discussions around portion control and healthy/unhealthy foods. The main aim for the Nursery is to be advocates for healthy eating and to support staff, parents and children in making healthier food choices.
To actively promote healthy eating Northcote House Nursery and Bennerley Pre-Prep have introduced a unique cooking station where the children are able to carry out weekly healthy cooking sessions with the Nursery Chef, Dean.
They have also implemented a Hydro veg system in the garden so children can watch and document the growth of the herbs and plants to educate the children on the understanding of planting and the life cycles.
Kelly Walton, Nursery Manager said “I am extremely proud of this achievement. Gaining a Healthy Early Years London (HEYL) Silver Award truly reflects our commitment and dedication to the importance of wellbeing and development of our children, staff and families.”
